Fintan and I spent the weekend on the East Coast of Malaysia. We had a wonderful time snorkeling, taking walks on the beach, and eating local seafood. It was such a romantic weekend. I really enjoyed watching the sunrise…something I rarely will wake up to witness. However, the sunrise over the South China Sea is amazing.
While taking a walk along the beach I felt like a child imagining picture books coming to life! We met the bravest crab…the only large crab on the beach in the bright day light. He was so adorable and put on quite a show for us. He would look at us and run sideways as fast as his legs would take him, then he would stop and quickly bury himself to hide. We walked over to his hiding spot and he was covered completely, except for the very tip of his shell.
Later while collecting shells we saw a live starfish in the water. He was moving with the water and using his legs to try and attach himself to the sea floor. It looked like a strenuous and futile job; I wonder if he ever managed?
There were also thousands of hermit crabs, sand dollars, and baby crabs all along the beach. The beach sand was alive with life…and I enjoyed every minute of it. The hermit crabs were mating, the sand dollars bury themselves when you take them out of their hiding spots, and the baby crabs run wild around your feet.
The Sea water was amazingly warm; the temperature of a bath. It was so enjoyable to swim in. Waking up to the sunrise and taking a morning swim was something I could easily get used to. Again Fintan surprised me with the best weekend trip…we really are blessed to have such wonderful places just hours from our home.
