Golf GTI 35

It is no secret, Fint loves cars.  He loves fast cars. The Golf GTI is not only a pretty face…it is fast, it is fun, it is easy to park in tiny parking spaces, and  Fint managed the impossible…he got a car I love…I am a big fan now!

 Mc K’s Volkswagens (so far)
(Fint Facts)

Fint’s first car, a 1973 VW Beetle, Cost $200, his Grandfather Bought it for him, but he was too young to get a driving licence so he sold it to his neighbour. They then proceeded to paint it bright red with domestic gloss paint using some three inch brushes, the paint never really seemed to dry, causing lots of people to get stuck to the car

Fintan’s 2nd car, a MK1 VW Golf, which his dad bough for him for going to University. (Ask Fint's brother about the hand brake and smoky engine.)

Mid 1990’s Fint’s sister traded in her BMW for the then state of the art MK4 Golf GTi

2006 Fintan goes to Denver in the US and has to have a SUV, but it’s America so he also has to have a V8.  So bring on the 4.1 litre Toureg, with the amazing idea of a V8 SUV that goes round corners!

2011, With more computers than Africa, a turbo, a supercharger and an illuminated vanity mirror, The 210 HP lightweight GTi, fly’s like a butterfly and stings like an AK47, and is our new family car.  I can drive it sensibly for my trips into town and shopping and Fintan can get around to all his meetings as quickly as the traction control allows!

All of that said…we do love our new Golf GTI and we were very happy to help it celebrate it’s 35th Birthday here in Singapore on a lovely, sunny Sunday afternoon.  I love our GTI so much that Fint actually got me to tag along for a car’s birthday party…and it was actually fun.  Though I may have been the only owner there that had separation anxiety when the valet drove away to park our girl.  And I may have been the only one to skip the free “Hottie” carwash, for fear that the buttons on their shorts would scratch our beautiful gunmetal gray exterior.  (Really they should have had to wear terry cloth clothing…jeans with metal buttons seems a bit crazy!)
"Hottie" Carwash...see what I mean??
Miss Golf GTI Pageant...why wouldn't there be one?
GTI Birthday Burger...complete with a typo...it reads GTI 32, it should be, GTI 35

In closing, if you think I am a bit odd about our car…it is a new feeling for me to even remotely enjoy driving a car to run errands….I have two scenarios in my head when it comes to our car…1: After watching Cars 2, I now believe our car has human like qualities…and she may be out street racing at night when we go to bed…(or at least that is what I will lead Fint to believe when it is impounded at 3AM on a Saturday night)  and  2:  While I  am driving it to pick up the dry-cleaning, I have an outer body experience, where I can see my car being video recorded by multiple angles (think of artsy car videography like that done for Top Gear UK.) and this recording leads to the responsibility I now have to think of witty comments about my car…trying to use sentences with Kiera Knightley’s body in them…which doesn’t come as natural as one would think…props to Jeremy Clarkson.

Ok let me cut to the chase…I am a new car fan…a fan of the little quick thing known as the Golf GTI. And I would like to say a big Happy Birthday shout-out to it! ;)

New Golf GTI Fan! ;)
